Great Gnarled Tree

Back to the Whisker Woods!

Welcome to the Great Gnarled Tree! What a majestic looking tree in the midst of a mysterious forest! Let's explore this area!

First thing's first, let's visit the trapsmith! Most of the mice here from the "Forest Guild" group can be caught with physical traps but they are weak to Tactical power traps. This is to say that a 1,200 power physical trap will be overshadowed by a 900 power tactical trap when it comes to catching tactical mice. Hence, it will be in our interest to obtain a tactical trap to make hunting here much more efficient.

Let's look at the trapsmith. The only new trap that you'll see is the Venus Mouse Trap:

Venus Mouse Trap

1,900 power, 0% power bonus, 5% attraction bonus, 5 luck, extremely fresh cheese effect

Cost: 299,650 gold / Point Requirement: 490,500 points

This will be your very first tactical trap! While the stats are decent for a starting trap, it is still lacking in its ability to catch the stronger tactical mice in the Great Gnarled Tree. It will suffice, for now. We will look into upgrading this trap in a while. If you do not have the gold required to purchase this trap, go back to the Mousoleum and farm a little more.

Once you've gotten your pretty new trap, it's time to hunt! Arm it with your dehydration base and arm your swiss cheese. For now, let's focus on a few main goals:

1) Catching a Fairy Mouse that drops the Map to the Lagoon.

This task is straightforward, same as usual, patience is the key. However, the fairy isn't particularly easy to catch. It is easier than the Lycan but you CAN still miss it. Just plug away at it, sound the horn and let it fall into your trap. This should not be overly difficult. Once you're done, you'll complete the "Climb Up the Great Gnarled Tree" in the adventure book.

2) Collecting Gnarled Potions.

Some of the mice (namely, Bear, Centaur, Chameleon and Frog) drop Gnarled Potions. Collect as many as you can while hunting for the Fairy. Gnarled Potions are used to convert brie cheese into gnarled cheese. At the Master level, each potion can convert 5 pieces of brie into gnarled at a cost of 200 per piece. As with the radioactive cheese potions, do not convert all of them at once as your conversion rate will improve in the future.

Once you have accumulated some gnarled potions, convert some brie into gnarled cheese. Gnarled cheese is required to attract the Curious Chemist Mouse.

3) Collecting Wicked Gnarly Potions

Once you have some gnarled cheese, arm it and go for the Curious Chemist Mouse. They aren't hard to catch, but they aren't attracted all the time as well. You may not find yourself catching a lot of these, but fret not, we can always return to hunt for them in the future. If you do catch a few of them, you'll collect Wicked Gnarly Potions. These are used to convert Wicked Gnarly Cheese. Save them, you'll use them later in the lagoon.

4) Upgrading your Trap

When you've reached 827,500 points, it's time to upgrade your Venus Mouse Trap! Check your inventory's crafting materials to see if you've 20 radioactive sludge (from stale RB cheese). If you're short on it, just arm your stalest set-up and equip RB cheese here in the Great Gnarled Tree. You'll get your radioactive sludge in no time. Once that's done, go to your Hunter's Hammer under the "Crafting" tab. We are going to smash our Venus Mouse Trap! Oh no!! What?! Yes, you'll have to smash your Venus Mouse Trap - you'll end up with a Venus Mouse Trap Husk.

Recipe for Mutated Venus Mouse Trap:
  • 1 Venus Mouse Trap Husk
  • 20 Radioactive Sludge
Voila! You now have an upgraded trap!

Mutated Venus Mouse Trap

2,300 power, 15% power bonus, 0% attraction bonus, 8 luck, insanely stale cheese effect

Point Requirement: 827,500 points

A more sinister variant of the Venus Mouse Trap, this trap is now a monstrosity, having mutated into a terrible supernatural mice-eating plant. This trap will be your favoured tactical trap for now, until you get a new tactical trap in the Furoma region. However, it's not even the strongest venus mouse trap yet!

Once you've completed your main goals, continue to hunt in the Great Gnarled Tree for more gnarled and wicked gnarly potions or return to the Mousoleum to farm more gold until you've reached the awesome title of Grandmaster.

Ready? Let's move on to the region of Furoma. To the Training Grounds!
